Approximately 200 workers employed at The University of the West Indies (The UWI) marched into the Teaching and Learning Complex in St Augustine during a council meeting yesterday to demand a remit for two outstanding collective bargaining periods.
Waving the OWTU (Oilfields Workers’ Trade Union) flag, chac chac in hand, horns blowing and claps from members was the scene as they filed into the compound where the meeting was in progress.
Their entrance onto the compound was accompanied with the singing of, “Solidarity forever, solidarity forever, solidarity forever, our union makes us strong. We will keep on struggling until we get a better pay, we will keep on struggling until we get a better pay, we will keep on struggling until we get a better pay, our union makes us strong.”
