Police are investigating an attempted home invasion on Waterloo Road, Carapichaima, in the early hours on Monday during which gunshots were fired at a man who came to the rescue of his elderly father.
Around 4 a.m., the 75-year-old father spotted five masked intruders on his CCTV cameras attempting to scale his fence. He alerted his son, who rushed to the scene in his car.
As he approached, the son sounded his car horn to deter the intruders, who jumped the wall and fled. While reversing away, one criminal fired on the car, piercing a headlight.
