A nine-year-old boy and his father are recovering in hospital after they were both shot during a home invasion at their Maloney Gardens apartment in the early hours of this morning.

The incident, police said, took place around 4 a.m. after the 49-year-old father, whose name was withheld by police, heard loud banging on his front door.

Believing law enforcement was at his home, the man went to open the door. However, before he could do so two masked gunmen forcibly broke the door down and entered the apartment, stated police.
