‘Are taxpayers getting value for money?’: Track GATE after graduation

PEOPLE who benefit from the Government Assistance for Tuition Expenses Programme (GATE) programme should be tracked after graduation to determine where they work and whether their qualifications are being utilised, Independent Senator Dr Marlene Attzs has suggested.

She said with hundreds of millions of taxpayers’ dollars spent annually on GATE, the country must determine whether that investment is contributing to productivity, competitiveness and economic diversification.

Attzs made the call in the Senate on Tuesday while piloting her private motion for the Government to prepare and table, within 12 months, a comprehensive National Workforce and Manpower Strategic Plan for Trinidad and Tobago.
