Economist and Independent Senator Dr Marlene Attzs is urging the Government to make job creation a central priority in budget 2026/2027.
Attzs would like a national employment strategy that moves beyond public-sector recruitment to deliver sustainable jobs for young people through targeted apprenticeships, work-integrated learning, entrepreneurship, and incentives for private-sector hiring.
Responding to questions from the Sunday Express yesterday, Attzs said the Government could not reasonably be expected to absorb everyone seeking employment into the public sector, given the country’s fiscal constraints.
