Police are reporting significant improvements on the nation’s roadways, with new statistics showing a 27% reduction in fatalities resulting from road traffic accidents compared to the corresponding period in 2025.
Speaking at Wednesday’s TTPS Media Briefing, Acting Superintendent of the Traffic and Highway Patrol Branch Kevin Martin attributed the improvement, in part, to increased traffic enforcement, while noting that speeding and driving under the influence remain among the leading causes of serious road accidents.

“In terms of the speed and the DUI, there have been a drastic reduction in terms of persons being involved in speed and we believe that the enforcement of the traffic regulations may have been a contributing factor towards that.”
