Thirteen years ago, on February 19 2013, Sgt Hayden Manwaring responded to a report of an armed robbery at a diner in San Fernando.

It would be his last duty as a police officer.

Manwaring was shot in the abdomen while attempting to apprehend the men. Two surgeons performed a three hour long surgery to save his life. The gunshot injury was however too close to his kidney and he had also lost a large amount of blood. Manwaring, 42, died at the hospital’s ICU.
