THE State was yesterday ordered to pay the legal fees of a police officer who was detained by the police for six days without being charged.
Justice Frank Seepersad found that the six days' detention, without any extenuating circumstance on the investigation being presented, was an inordinate period.
He reminded that the police must act with alacrity when treating with the liberty of the citizen, as he ordered the $4,500 be paid.
