Attorney General John Jeremie has dismissed the Opposition’s claim of victory in the wrongful dismissal case involving former Central Bank Governor Dr Alvin Hilaire.
He insisted yesterday the settlement saved taxpayers millions of dollars and fell short of the $9.8 million initially sought by Hilaire.
Jeremie said the Government’s handling of the matter was guided by prudence, fairness and respect for the former governor, contrasting its approach with that of the previous People’s National Movement (PNM) administration in its removal of former Central Bank Governor Jwala Rambarran.
