The State has reached an out-of-court settlement with former Central Bank Governor Dr Alvin Hilaire in his wrongful dismissal action against the Cabinet and the Attorney General, bringing the matter to an end before the start of the trial at the Port-of-Spain High Court.
The case came before Justice Ramsumir-Hinds, with the cross-examination of Planning, Economic Affairs and Development Minister Kennedy Swaratsingh and Hilaire scheduled to take place.
However, before proceedings began, the State approached Hilaire with an offer to settle the matter. Following discussions between the parties, an agreement was reached on terms described as favourable to Hilaire.
