Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander says the Government is examining legal options to address what he describes as the continued misuse of social media and the spread of misinformation that affects national safety and security.
Alexander told the Express in a phone interview yesterday that discussions are under way on “how we can approach (Attorney General John Jeremie) to see what is the best solution we have,” indicating that a legal response is being considered.
He said the intention is to develop “a legal approach against that behaviour,” including the possibility of new laws “to limit persons’ continuous misuse of social media and the spread of misinformation”.
