Police Inspector under close arrested after shooting civilian during confrontation

A 46-year-old Police inspector attached to the Tactical Services Unit (TSU) was placed under close arrest after he allegedly shot a civilian during a misunderstanding along the Buxton Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara (ECD), on Friday. Based on reports received, a 48-year-old man was driving a minibus along the Buxton Railway Embankment when an encounter occurred between him and the Police inspector, who was driving a motor car. An argument reportedly broke out between the two men, during which the inspector whopped out his service firearm, a 9mm Glock 19 pistol, and discharged several rounds in the direction of the 48-year-old man. He reportedly sustained suspected gunshot injuries and was taken to the Enmore Regional Hospital, where he was seen and examined and admitted as a patient with gunshot wounds to his chest and left leg. His condition is listed as serious but stable. However, the Police Inspector subsequently reported the matter to the Police and handed over his service firearm along with 13 live rounds of ammunition. The firearm and ammunition were lodged pending examination. Meanwhile, a third motor vehicle which was in the vicinity at the time of the incident was also reportedly struck. The Police Inspector was subsequently placed under close arrest pending investigations and possible charges. The police are currently reviewing CCTV footage collected from the area.
