(Kaieteur News) – A 38-year-old taxi driver from New Amsterdam, Berbice, is in police custody after officers discovered a loaded revolver and nearly 15 kilograms of suspected cannabis at his Shoe Lane residence on Tuesday.

The operation, carried out at approximately 11:45 hours by ranks from Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), was intelligence-led. Acting on information received, officers visited the man’s home and conducted a thorough search for arms, ammunition, and narcotics.

During the search, officers uncovered several transparent plastic-wrapped parcels containing what appeared to be cannabis sativa — leaves, seeds, and stems — concealed inside two blue plastic barrels. The suspect acknowledged ownership of the substance.
