URP shake-up: Minister confirms firings, denies programme closure

A undisclosed number of Unemployment Relief Programme (URP) employees were fired across the country today.
The move was described by Rural Development and Local Government Minister Khadijah Ameen as an effort to restructure the programme and halt corrupt practices.
She denied that the programme would be shut down.
