A security guard is among three men in police custody following an attempted robbery at AmcoWeld Engineering Ltd in Couva late Monday night, during which $90,000 worth of copper cable was nearly stolen.
According to police, officers from the Couva Criminal Investigations Department (CID) responded to a report of suspicious activity at the Camden Road facility around 11:30 p.m.
On arrival, they found a 25-year-old security guard, employed with Tamim Security Firm, lying on the floor in handcuffs. The guard, a resident of East California, initially claimed he had been ambushed around 10 p.m. by three armed men, who handcuffed him and held him at gunpoint.
