A four-year-old is now dead after the vehicle in which he was travelling turned turtle along the St Cuthbert’s Mission trail along the Linden/Soesdyke Highway late Sunday afternoon. The accident involved a motorcar, PAJ 5607, being driven by a 28-year-old welder of Yarrowkabra, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, with a 24-year-old woman and a 4-year-old child as the occupants. The driver reportedly told police that he was heading out of the mission when an approaching vehicle driving at a fast rate created a large cloud of dust, which obstructed his vision.
He also alleged that another motor car entered his lane, causing him to swerve to avoid a collision, and reportedly lost control of his vehicle, causing it to topple several times. The woman and the child reportedly sustained injuries and were rushed to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where the child was pronounced dead.
The driver and female occupant were treated and discharged. The driver was subsequently arrested, and he is assisting with the investigations.
