CHRISTOPHER Samaroo, father of Joshua Samaroo, who was killed in a confrontation with police officers in January, expressed fear that he would be served with a Preventive Detention Order (PDO), claiming such a move would be intended to undermine his credibility as he pursued legal action over his son's death.
The Express was allowed to see a handwritten statement written by Samaroo, which was signed on June 24, the same day that Samaroo was interviewed in connection with a voice recording that had been circulated.
Samaroo has been in police custody since Monday night. Police told him he was being detained under Regulation 11 of the Emergency Powers Regulations. This Regulation (Legal Notice No 40) prohibits any person from endea vouring to influence public opinion in a manner likely to be prejudicial to public safety.
