Former PNM leader Dr Keith Rowley and Port of Spain North/St Ann’s West MP Stuart Young have not yet congratulated new PNM leader Pennelope Beckles on her victory.
Beckles was uncontested as PNM leader when nominations closed on Monday.
Asked at a news conference, at the Office of the Opposition Leader in Port of Spain yesterday, whether Rowley and Young had congratulated her, Beckles said: “They haven’t done that as yet but certainly when I was appointed (as Opposition Leader) I got an official letter from Dr Rowley. And Mr Young has attended our caucus meeting.” She said she only became political leader on Monday so there was still time. “June 29 [at the convention] is when it is official,” she said.
