To those who question her silence on a number of national issues, Opposition Leader Pennelope Beckles said yesterday, “I am sure you understand the difference between Leader of the Opposition and leader of the party.”
She said on certain issues, one has to speak for and on behalf of the party, adding that her colleagues will, from time to time, address issues in areas for which they have responsibility. “On 22nd June when we have elections, I am looking forward to becoming officially the leader of the party. That would then give me the authority to speak,” she said.
She was speaking at a news conference following the ceremonial opening of Parliament.
