Akil De Vignes is being celebrated online for his heroic actions after he climbed a Ferris wheel to rescue a young child dangling from a pod in a dramatic incident captured on video Sunday evening.

De Vignes, of Cocorite, is already being promoted on social media as a candidate for a national award for gallantry by those who witnessed the rescue and saw it unfold in widely shared footage.

The incident occurred around 6:25 p.m. at the amusement park at MovieTowne, Port of Spain.
