Homicide detectives are investigating the death of 63-year-old Ramesh Lalbeharry after an autopsy revealed he died from multiple blunt force trauma.
Lalbeharry died on January 6, days after sustaining injuries at his Lower Barrackpore home on New Year’s Day. Police were told that Lalbeharry had been drinking alcohol with family members when a dispute reportedly arose with a male relative.
However, a family member disputed that account, telling reporters that Lalbeharry fell from a coconut tree on the same day and was injured. He said Lalbeharry, a grandfather of four and a former Cepep worker, was monitored at home for two days before being taken to hospital, where he later died.
