A crazy weekend of TT Premier Football League (TTPFL) action has set the stage for this, as the top two clubs, Defence Force (46 points) and Club Sando (42 points), meet from 8 pm at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo tomorrow (March 18).
A win for the Army/Coast Guard combination will see them opening up an unassailable seven-point gap atop the 12-team table and clinching the 2025/26 title with two games to spare. A win for Sando will make for intriguing viewing for the remainder of the season, as Defence Force's lead will be trimmed to a solitary point.
On the weekend, both the Defence Force and Sando dropped points with 1-0 losses, as the top four teams in the league faced off. On March 14, Sando lost to fourth-placed Prisons (38 points), with Defence Force going down in a meeting with their rivals, Miscellaneous Police FC (39 points), on March 15. The loss saw the Army's unbeaten run coming to an end, as well as their dream of winning back-to-back titles while going undefeated for consecutive seasons.
Last season, the Army racked up an impressive 20 wins in 22 matches en route to a 62-point haul. They finished the season 16 points clear of the second-placed Central FC.
This season's road to TTPFL success for coach Devorn Jorsling's team has been made a bit bumpier after the weekend loss to the lawmen at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Malabar. Coach Angus Eve and Sando will definitely want to have their input as well.
In the first game of tomorrow's Hasely Crawford Stadium double-header, Prisons will play the sixth-placed San Juan Jabloteh (30 points) from 6 pm. In other matches, Central will take on Terminix La Horquetta Rangers, Caledonia will face AC Port of Spain, and Point Fortin Civic (11 points) and Eagles (16 points) will clash at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella in a matchup between the 12th and tenth-placed teams.
