The 2025/26 TT Premier Football League (TTPFL) summit saw little change this weekend, as the top three teams all registered victories. Holders and league leaders Defence Force (39 points) maintained their three-point lead with a 2-0 victory over the fourth-placed Prisons FC (26 points) at the Arima Velodrome on January 31, with the second-placed Club Sando (36 points) and the third-placed Miscellaneous Police FC (30 points) getting respective results over AC Port of Spain (25 points) and Caledonia AIA (13 points).
In the second match of a double-header at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella, on February 1, coach Angus Eve’s Club Sando team used a ruthless 12-minute burst in the first half to get by the fifth-placed AC PoS 3-2. Jaheim Joseph, midfielder Luke Phillips and captain Shervohnez Hamilton scored in the first 17 minutes to give Sando a 3-0 advantage, before defender Robert Primus pulled a goal back in first-half stoppage-time to eat into the lead.
In the earlier encounter in Marabella, the seventh-placed San Juan Jabloteh (18 points) rallied behind a second-half brace from flanker Jaheim Faustin as they came from behind to edge the cellar-placed Terminix La Horquetta Rangers (nine points) 2-1.
At the Arima Velodrome on January 31, the Army/Coast Guard combination used a thorough and business-like display to get by Prisons, with goals coming in either half from the veteran pair of defender Sheldon Bateau and Joevin Jones. Prisons goalkeeper Jabari Gray was in inspired form throughout the 90 minutes, but could do little to stop a 43rd-minute Bateau header which flew in from a Jones corner.
The second half saw Gray making a string of fine saves, as he came up big to stop close-range efforts from Tyrese Bailey and Nicholas Dillon. At the other end, Isaiah “Blinky” Williams was rarely threatened in the Army goal, but he did come off his line sharply in the 73rd minute to save at the feet of left back Darnell Hosepdeles.
In the fifth minute of second-half stoppage-time, Jones wrapped up the points for Defence Force with a clinical right-footed finish on the counter.
In the earlier match at the velodrome, the visiting 1976 FC Phoenix (15 points) got a 2-0 win over the 11th-placed Point Fortin Civic. Meanwhile, in La Horquetta on January 30, Police blanked Caledonia 4-0 on the back of a Kwesi “Jep” Allen brace, with last season’s runners-up Central FC Reboot (24 points) getting an exciting 3-2 win over Eagles FC (ten points).
