THE National Trust has taken issue with Parliament over damage caused to a historic over-two-centuries-old fountain at the Cabildo Building, Port of Spain.

In a four-page letter to Clerk of the House Brian Caesar dated August 3, 2026, National Trust Council member Mark Franco said the Trust was insisting that only a full restoration of the nationally protected structure is acceptable, and warned that anything less would undermine the rule of law and the country’s heritage.

The correspondence follows an inspection of the Cabildo Building on July 23 and a subsequent meeting between Trust officials and parliamentary representatives.
