THE Office of the Attorney General has been ordered to pay nearly $180,000 in damaÂges, interest and legal costs to a man who alleged that police officers extorted money from him, used excessive force against him, and threatened to kill him if he reported their actions.
The award followed a High Court assessment of damages on September 28, after the State failed to defend the civil claim.
The claimant, who requested anonymity because he feared for his safety, was granted default judgment in April and the matter sent before a High Court master for the determination of the quantum to be paid.
