OpĀpoĀsiĀtion Leader PenĀneĀlope BeckĀles and forĀmer prime minĀisĀter StuĀart Young have deĀfendĀed the nine InĀdeĀpenĀdent SenĀaĀtors afĀter they votĀed against the GovĀernĀmentās conĀtroĀverĀsial PubĀlic ProĀcureĀment and DisĀposĀal of PubĀlic PropĀerĀty AmendĀment Bill (2026), with BeckĀles warnĀing that the legĀisĀlaĀtion could open the door to bilĀlions of dolĀlars beĀing squanĀdered.
The Bill was passed on MonĀday night afĀter SenĀate PresĀiĀdent Wade Markās castĀing vote broke a 15-15 tie of GovĀernĀment votes for the Bill and OpĀpoĀsiĀtion and InĀdeĀpenĀdent SenĀaĀtorsā votes against it.
