OPPOSITION Leader Pennelope Beckles has warned that the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Property (Amendment) Bill, 2026 could facilitate the Government’s “gutting of the Treasury” with not enough safeguards towards accountability.

In a statement yesterday, Beckles flagged a lack of support for the bill by the Independent Bench and expressed outrage at the passage of the legislation.

She asserted that “the Government would have you believe that the Independent Senators’ individual decisions not to support the procurement legislation are unjust and wrong”.
