A 25-year-old carpenter has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving in connection with a crash on the Charity New Road, Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) that claimed the life of one motorcyclist and left another seriously injured. Patrick Murray of Charity River Dam, Essequibo Coast, appeared before Magistrate Ravindra Mohabir at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court on July 16, charged with causing the death of Daniel Grey of Somerset and Berks, Essequibo Coast, contrary to Section 35(1) of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act, Chapter 51:02.
The charge stems from a collision that occurred at about 15:20h on Saturday, September 13, 2025, along the Charity New Road in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam). Daniel Grey, who was 27 at the time of the accident, was killed, while 31-year-old Alex Jaigopaul of the Essequibo Coast sustained serious injuries.
Police investigations revealed that Grey and Jaigopaul were riding separate motorcycles east along the northern carriageway behind motor car PAC 697, which was being driven by Murray. The two motorcyclists were reportedly travelling side by side when the driver of the motorcar allegedly indicated to turn right off the public road to enter the compound of a Chinese supermarket. As the vehicle was making the turn, both motorcycles collided with the right side of the car.
