Calypso icon Slinger Francisco, better known as The Mighty Sparrow, has died.

Sparrow, 91, passed away yesterday in New York after a brief illness.

A release issued by Sparrow’s daughter, Karen, yesterday afternoon said her father, known as the Calypso King of the World, died peacefully, surrounded by family.
