A 55-year-old Penal woman has died by suicide, days after her ten-month-old granddaughter drowned in a swimming pool in Diego Martin.

Deera Seepersad of Railway Line Road, Gopie Trace, was found in her home garage on Sunday, after reportedly ingesting poison. Her suicide bid was witnessed by an eight-year-old who alerted family members.

Seepersad was taken to the San Fernando General Teaching Hospital, where she was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. She succumbed to her injuries around 5:23 a.m. on Monday.
