The grandmother who took her own life days after her ten-month-old granddaughter drowned in a swimming pool was an amputee and stroke survivor whose life had been marked by years of trauma, including surviving a deadly home invasion that claimed her husband’s life.
Deera Seepersad, 55, had suffered a brain aneurysm in 2021 and was being treated for diabetes and a severe circulatory condition caused by sepsis. She had recently undergone surgery to amputate the toes on her right foot resulting in her depending on a walking stick to move around quickly.
Seepersad was being cared for by her children – a son living in Diego Martin and daughter at the family’s home in Penal.
