ERC issues 33 warnings over racist, divisive social media content

(Kaieteur News) – The Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC) issued 33 cautionary warnings over social media and other publicly available content deemed to be of ethnic concern during the period 25th August to 25th September, 2026 as it continued monitoring for material capable of fuelling racial tension and intolerance.

According to the Commission’s September monthly report released yesterday, the 33 warnings represented a decline from the 48 warnings issued in August.

Of the 33 warnings, 12 involved racial slurs, while seven concerned racially derogatory statements and five related to racially prejudiced remarks.
