A mag­ni­tude 5.0 earth­quake rat­tled Trinidad and To­ba­go yes­ter­day evening, ac­cord­ing to the Uni­ver­si­ty of the West In­dies Seis­mic Re­search Cen­tre (UWI SRC).

The tremor was au­to­mat­i­cal­ly record­ed at 7.50 pm at a depth of 44 kilo­me­tres. Its epi­cen­tre was lo­cat­ed at 10.82°N lat­i­tude and 61.80°W lon­gi­tude—ap­prox­i­mate­ly 36 kilo­me­tres north­west of Port of Spain, 61 kilo­me­tres west-north­west of Ari­ma, and 73 kilo­me­tres north­west of San Fer­nan­do.

The SRC not­ed that the pre­lim­i­nary da­ta were gen­er­at­ed by com­put­er al­go­rithms and may be re­vised af­ter de­tailed analy­sis by seis­mol­o­gists.
