(Kaieteur News) – A New Amsterdam, Berbice taxi driver was on Friday granted $700,000 bail when he appeared before the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court on charges involving the alleged possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition, and a quantity of cannabis.
Ryan Lewis, 38, of Shoe Lane, New Amsterdam, was arraigned before Magistrate Michelle Matthias, where he denied the charges of unlawful possession of a firearm without a licence and unlawful possession of ammunition without a licence, both brought under Section 16(2)(a) of the Firearms Act, Chapter 16:05 of the Laws of Guyana.
He was granted $400,000 bail for the firearm charge and $300,000 for the ammunition charge, totalling $700,000. The matter was adjourned to 6th July, 2026.
