IT has been four years since five commercial divers were sucked into a 30-inch submerged oil pipeline at the Berth 6 offshore platform in Pointe-a-Pierre on February 25, 2022, a tragedy that claimed the lives of four, and was survived by only one.
But even as they will gather today to commemorate their loved ones who died while trapped inside the pipeline, relatives have yet to receive any update on a potential criminal investigation into the events that led to the deaths of Fyzal Kurban, Kazim Ali Jr, Yusuf Henry and Rishi Nagassar.
The men, including lone survivor Christopher Boodram, were then employed by LMCS Ltd which was contracted by Paria Trading Company to conduct maintenance work on the pipeline at No 36 sealine riser on the offshore platform at Pointe-a-Pierre when they were pulled in. Boodram survived, crawling his way back through the narrow steel pipe that became, for his colleagues, a tomb. Days after, the bodies of Kurban, Ali, Henry and Nagassar were flushed from the pipe.
