Not everyone will be lost in the revelry of the Carnival this week. For all involved and affected by the Paria pipeline horror, today remains unforgettable—the survivor, the families of the victims, the rescue workers.
Three years ago this afternoon, five divers were sucked into a 30-inch pipeline while conducting maintenance work at No 36 sealine riser on the Berth 6 offshore platform at Pointe-a-Pierre.
Later that evening, diver Christopher Boodram would emerge from the pipeline that became the coffin for his friends. And it was not until three days later that the bodies of Fyzal Kurban, Kazim Ali Jr and Yusuf Henry were retrieved. The body of Rishi Nagassar was recovered the following day.
