Govt. to demolish old barracks at Brickdam Police Station

(Kaieteur News) – With works ongoing to fully complete the US$28 million Brickdam Police Station Headquarters (renamed the National Security Tower) in Georgetown, the Ministry of Home Affairs is now moving towards demolishing the old barracks that are situated in the compound.

This is according to an invitation for bids recently issued by the ministry. “Demolition of Old Police Station Barracks Brickdam Police Station,” the ministry has tendered for, noting that bids are expected to open on October 5, 2026 at the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) office.

The barracks are the living spaces for police officers who were stationed at the old Brickdam Police Station. Kaieteur News had reported that on October 2, 2021 a devastating fire flattened the Brickdam Police Station, along with two vehicles and a business place close by. According to reports, the fire reportedly began around 11:06hrs that day in the upper part of an eastern building and spread to several other buildings in the compound.
