All firearms assigned to municipal corporations are to be immediately deposited at police stations across Trinidad and Tobago, following the discovery of irregularities in firearm users’ licences.
The directive was issued in a memorandum dated April 22, 2026, from the Office of the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government to Chief Executive Officers of all municipal corporations.
According to the memo, preliminary reviews conducted by the Commissioner of Police revealed administrative issues affecting firearm users’ licences issued to City, Borough and Regional Corporations.
