MONTHS after a police officer was killed and 123 firearms and more than 4,000 rounds of ammunition were stolen from the San Fernando Municipal Police Station, three guns belonging to the Port of Spain City Police have been reported missing.

Police said the three weapons were handed over to officers at the Central Police Station, Port of Spain, on Monday evening for safekeeping. However, when City Police officers returned to the station around 5 a.m. yesterday to retrieve the firearms, three of the weapons could not be located.

The Express contacted a senior officer of the Port of Spain Division yesterday, who confirmed that the firearms remained unaccounted for. He said, however, that investigators were not ruling out the possibility that the weapons may have been mistakenly handed over to private security personnel rather than stolen. “But we are continuing investigations,” the officer said.
