(Kaieteur News) – The US Embassy in Georgetown is reportedly pressing the Guyana Government to pay US-based contractor Lindsayca an additional US$102 million to complete the delayed Gas-to-Energy (GTE) project at Wales, even as the country continues to incur substantial costs renting power ships to meet its electricity needs, sources have told Kaieteur News.
Sources close to the negotiations said the Embassy is backing Lindsayca’s demand for additional funding to complete the Natural Gas Liquids (NGL) facility and 300-megawatt (MW) power plant, which were initially scheduled for completion by the end of 2024.
The reported push for more money comes amid mounting concerns over the project’s delays, cost overruns and the financial burden being borne by taxpayers
