(Kaieteur News) – The United States (US) is confident that the Government of Guyana (GoG) will not be deterred from hiring American firms for future major projects despite the massive delays encountered at the Wales Gas-to-Energy (GTE) project being constructed by Lindsayca.
During a luncheon hosted by the Guyana Manufacturing Services Association (GMSA) on Tuesday at the Marriott Hotel, Kingston, Georgetown, the US Ambassador to Guyana, Nicole Theriot told business executives, “Other US agencies also bring tools to the table. US Export Import Bank’s $527 million financing for the Gas-to-Energy project is supporting US equipment and engineering while expanding Guyana’s power capacity and they have promised me that we will have first power in December.”
Meanwhile in an exclusive interview with this newspaper, she explained that the delays at the project were due to inappropriate soil conditions at Wales, West Bank Demerara. She was asked to say whether she believes the delays can deter government from utilising US firms for major projects in the future.
