Kamla now Persona Grata in Venezuela

Months after she was declared Persona Non Grata by the Venezuelan National Assembly, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar is now welcome in Venezuela, marking a diplomatic thaw between the two countries after months of tensions that preceded the extraction of its former President Nicolas Maduro.

As Persad-Bissessar and Venezuelan President Delcy Rodriguez held their first official bilateral meeting in New York today at Venezuela’s permanent mission to the United Nations while participating in the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, they welcomed a “new era” of bilateral relations between Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela.

A joint statement released by both parties after the meeting occurred stated that both leaders had “reaffirmed historical bonds of friendship and cooperation” and reiterated a commitment to a bilateral agenda. It noted principles of neighbourliness, dialogue and cooperation.
