THE Peopleās National Movement (PNM) Opposition yesterday voted against the temporary appointments of Junior Benjamin as acting Commissioner of Police and Anand Ramesar as acting Deputy Commissioner of Police, as questions were raised in Parliament about Ramesarās disciplinary history.
Despite the Oppositionās objections, both motions were carried by the Governmentās majority, with 23 MPs voting in favour and eight Opposition MPs voting against.
Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander moved the two motions seeking parliamentary approval of notifications from the President on the nominations by the Police Service Commission (PolSC) for Benjamin to act as Commissioner of Police and Ramesar as Deputy Commissioner of Police.
