Trinidad and Tobago will take over from Panama, holding the non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council from January 2027 for Latin America and the Caribbean.
Speaking with TTT News, Political Scientist Professor Hamid Ghany called the election a proud and historic accomplishment, highlighting that Trinidad and Tobago’s successful return to the United Nations Security Council demonstrates the confidence the global community has placed in the nation.
He said Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has now been “vindicated” by Wednesday’s overwhelming vote.
