Police are investigating a report of larceny by trick involving a 63-year-old Belmont woman who claims she was defrauded of more than $24,000 in connection with clearing items shipped from abroad.
According to a report received around 11:57 p.m. the victim told police that on December 4, 2025, she visited Shed No. 10 at the Port of Port of Spain to enquire about clearing items she had shipped from the United States.
While there, she was introduced to a woman who identified herself and was reportedly presented as a customs broker by a customs officer on duty. The suspect allegedly informed the victim that her fee to conduct the business would be $3,500.
