A 61-year-old businesswoman was taken into Police custody on Wednesday after a quantity of uncustomed goods was found at her Turn Basin, Port Kaituma, North West District (NWD), property.
Police stated that during an intelligence-led operation, ranks searched the business place, which led to the discovery of a substantial quantity of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages suspected to have been unlawfully imported into Guyana.
The contraband items were confiscated and taken to the Port Kaituma Police Station, along with the elderly businesswoman. The woman remains in custody as Police are liaising with the relevant authorities to determine the origin and subsequent charges.
