The Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (PATT) has rejected a report alleging that a runaway truck nearly crushed a woman at the Port of Scarborough, describing the account as exaggerated and misleading.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Authority said the online report, published on July 28th under the headline ‘Runaway truck almost crushes woman’, presented unverified claims as fact and relied primarily on the account of an anonymous truck driver.
PATT said it was not contacted for comment before the story was published and was not given an opportunity to provide its account of the incident. It also said no independent source was cited to substantiate claims that a woman narrowly escaped death or that a fatality had been imminent.
