A former housing minister has written to President Christine Kangaloo calling on her to use her “moral authority” to persuade the Government to provide State land for all who need a house.
John Humphrey, former minister of housing and settlements under the Basdeo Panday government, wrote to Kangaloo in a letter dated February 18, pointing out that he had led the battle to protect the homes of this country’s poor and landless, and demolitions ceased for three decades.
However, he said the brutal, immoral and unconstitutional demolitions have resumed. Humphrey was referring to the recent demolitions and evictions of families from State lands at Ramjattan Trace, Arima.
