The University of the West Indies (UWI) Penal-Debe South Campus is projected to finally house classes this year, over a decade after being abandoned and a whopping $600 million spent.
However, the opening date remains uncertain. The UWI, St Augustine, indicated in a media release yesterday that classes will officially begin in August 2025, while a Government official told the Express that this date may not be realistic, as there is “bush” all over the place and a team needs to visit the site and report on the scope of works required to bring the facility up to par.
