The University of the West Indies (UWI) South Debe Campus is set to undergo major repairs and rehabilitation ahead of its planned reopening for the 2026/2027 academic year, following a decade of limited use and disrepair.
Since taking office in April 2025, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, SC MP, has emphasised the Government’s commitment to reopening the campus to serve rural communities and support academic and economic growth in southern Trinidad.
Palo Seco Agricultural Enterprise Limited (PSAEL) has been appointed as the executing agency responsible for the repairs. In August 2025, PSAEL engaged a consultant to prepare a scope of work, and a Facility Condition Assessment conducted in September outlined the interventions required and projected costs to bring the campus to a state of readiness.
